Lawn Care in Kitchener-Waterloo

Lawn care here means three jobs working together: feeding the soil, opening up compacted ground, and filling in the bare patches. We sell all three, separately or bundled, to homeowners across Kitchener and Waterloo.

What’s included in “lawn care”

This page covers the season-long program. Each piece also has its own page with full detail:

  • Organic fertilizing. Compost tea and worm castings, never a synthetic spray. See organic fertilizer for the chemical-free detail.
  • Core aeration. Pulls real plugs out of compacted soil so air, water and feed can reach the roots. See core aeration.
  • Overseeding. New seed into open ground, usually paired with aeration. See overseeding and garden beds.

What’s not included

Lawn care doesn’t cover mowing (that’s its own visit, see lawn mowing), and it doesn’t cover pulling weeds by hand in garden beds (that’s bed maintenance, $100 to $125 an hour plus HST). We also don’t spray herbicide. If a lawn needs cutting back and clearing before care work can start, that’s a yard clean-up first.

What you can count on

  • 4.9 stars from 111 Google reviews.
  • Cancel any time with 14 days’ notice. You only pay for visits completed.
  • We’re honest about timing. We aerate in spring and overseed in fall, as separate visits. Some sources say fall is the stronger window for aeration too. We only sell it in spring as a single service; if you want both jobs done at their ideal time, a plan handles the scheduling for you.

The KW lawn, one job at a time

Feed it. Compost tea and worm castings, spread across the growing season, build soil that feeds the grass on its own instead of a fast synthetic hit that fades in weeks.

Open it up. A lot of KW lawns, especially newer builds, sit on packed subsoil under a thin layer of soil and rolled sod. That’s compaction our own crews see on the job, not a lab test, but it’s a real and common local condition. Core aeration pulls plugs of soil out so roots, air and water can actually get past the packed layer.

Fill it in. Seed dropped onto bare, established turf mostly bounces or dries out before it germinates. Seed dropped into the holes left by aeration has soil contact and moisture, which is why overseeding follows aeration rather than standing alone.

How the plans handle scheduling

If you don’t want to track three separate bookings, our summer plans bundle mowing with lawn care at a season discount. The Complete plan adds overseeding and a fall clean-up on top of weekly mowing; the Premium plan adds core aeration and four organic fertilizer applications on top of that, at Chris’s chosen “royal treatment” level of care. Aeration lands in spring, overseeding in fall, same as booking them separately, just scheduled for you.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you aerate in spring but overseed in fall? Overseeding needs warm soil and cooling air to germinate well, which fall gives it. Aeration works in either season; we sell it in spring as a standalone service, and pair it with a fall overseed for the fuller result.

Do I need all three services? Not necessarily. A lawn on decent soil with no bare patches might only need feeding. A lawn that’s hard underfoot in July or has water pooling on the surface usually needs aeration first. We’ll tell you honestly what your lawn needs, not sell you all three by default.

Is any of this safe for kids and pets? The fertilizing program is, yes: no re-entry period, no flag in the yard. Full detail on organic fertilizer.

Can I add lawn care to my mowing visits? Yes. We’re already on your street for mowing, so adding a fertilizing or aeration visit is easy to schedule. See lawn mowing, or bundle everything into a summer plan.
