What’s included
- A full-lawn application of compost tea and worm castings, front and back.
- Coverage of the whole mowable lawn area, not just the visible front yard.
- Plain talk about what your lawn actually needs, including when a feed alone won’t fix a bare or compacted patch.
What’s not included
This is fertilizing only. It doesn’t include weed pulling, aeration or overseeding, though it pairs well with all three (see “Pairs well with” below). We also don’t spray herbicide, ever, on any lawn. If your lawn needs cutting back before a feed makes sense, start with lawn mowing or a yard clean-up.
What’s in the blend
- Compost tea. Aged compost, steeped and aerated so the living microbes stay active right up until the sprayer hits the grass. Those microbes break organic matter down into something roots can use.
- Worm castings. Slow, steady nutrition, plus the biology that keeps soil loose instead of packed hard.
No synthetic salts. A synthetic feed is a fast hit of salt that greens the blade tip quickly and fades. This blend feeds the soil so the soil keeps feeding the grass.

Ontario’s Cosmetic Pesticides Ban, and what it means here
Ontario’s Cosmetic Pesticides Ban (O. Reg. 63/09, in force since April 2009) prohibits cosmetic-use pesticides like 2,4-D and glyphosate-type weed killers on residential lawns and gardens. We don’t use them, on any lawn, under any package.
That ban covers pesticides, weed and insect killers, not fertilizer, so it isn’t what makes our fertilizer program “organic.” What makes it organic is what’s actually in the tank: compost tea and worm castings, the same materials that go into a vegetable bed. There’s no Canada-wide certified-organic seal for lawn fertilizer the way there is for organic food, so we don’t claim one. We just tell you what’s in it.
We’re also careful with the word “chemical-free.” Water and compost are made of something, technically. What we mean, plainly, is no synthetic pesticide and no synthetic herbicide, just compost tea and worm castings.
What you should expect to see
Slower than a synthetic program, and better afterward. The first application usually shows as a deeper, steadier colour over two or three weeks, not a sudden neon green. Over a full season the lawn tends to hold colour longer between rains and thin out less in July and August heat.
What fertilizer alone won’t fix: a lawn with a bare patch, a hard-packed base, or thin turf that weeds keep winning against. For those, feeding is one part of the job. Core aeration opens the soil so the tea can reach the root zone, and overseeding puts new grass into the gaps.
Weeds, without the herbicide
We don’t spray herbicide, so we won’t promise a weed-free lawn by Friday. What actually works instead:
- Mow high. Taller grass shades the soil, and weed seed needs light to start. This happens on every lawn mowing visit, and it’s also OMAFRA’s own guidance: never cut more than a third of the blade at once.
- Thicken the turf. A thick lawn is the best weed control there is, because weeds need bare ground to get started. Aeration, overseeding and feeding all work toward this over a season or two.
- Feed the soil, not the weed. A weedy patch is often a signal of compaction or poor soil, which is what aeration and feeding are for.
Frequently asked questions
Can my kids and dog go on the lawn right after you spray? Yes, immediately. Compost tea and worm castings, no re-entry period.
Will it burn my grass if you put too much down? No. Burning comes from concentrated synthetic salts, and there are none in this blend.
How many applications do I actually need? One helps. Four through the season, spaced from spring into fall, is what actually builds the soil, which is why the season program is priced at $499 instead of four singles at $150 each.
Does organic fertilizer kill weeds? No. It grows thicker, healthier turf, and thick turf crowds weeds out over time. For faster results on a weedy lawn, pair it with aeration and overseeding.
Is this legal under Ontario’s pesticide rules? Yes. Ontario’s Cosmetic Pesticides Ban restricts pesticides like 2,4-D and glyphosate. We don’t use any of those, on any lawn. What we spray is compost tea and worm castings, which the ban doesn’t govern in the first place.
Pairs well with
Fertilizing alone helps a healthy lawn stay healthy. For a lawn that’s compacted or thin, add core aeration so the tea can reach the roots, and overseeding to fill bare ground. For the full season managed together, see lawn care in Kitchener-Waterloo.
