Back March 15.

We’re on snow until then. Ask now and we’ll have your spot ready.

We spread Greenhorizons Professional Overseeding Blend across the grass you already have, sized to your lawn, so bare patches fill in and the whole lawn comes back denser. Pricing starts at $245, plus HST.

What’s included

  • Greenhorizons Professional Overseeding Blend, spread at a rate set by your lawn size
  • Seed worked by hand into the worst bare patches
  • Driveway and walkways blown clean so seed grows where you want it, not where it landed

What’s not included

  • Core aeration is a separate service, seed germinates best in aerated holes, but the two are booked and priced separately
  • Watering the new seed is the homeowner’s job, see the watering note below
  • Garden bed maintenance and edging are priced separately (see below)

Why we book overseeding in fall

Cool-season lawns like the ones common across Kitchener-Waterloo germinate best when the soil is still warm and the air is cooling, which is why late summer into early fall is the window turf professionals name most consistently for overseeding. Our own plans follow that same pattern: overseeding is the fall service, core aeration is the spring one. Book them in the same year and the timing works in the lawn’s favour either way, aeration opens the soil in spring, overseeding fills it in come fall.

New seed needs the surface kept damp for the first couple of weeks, short and frequent watering, not one long soak. If we’re seeding while the Region’s summer watering restriction is still active, it runs May 31 to September 30, lawn watering is normally allowed only once a week, on an address-based day, and only 5:30 to 10 a.m. or 7 to 11 p.m. A temporary permit is available for newly seeded lawns. Ask us or the Region when you book if your overseeding date falls inside that window.

Garden bed care

A thick new lawn next to a bed full of weeds still looks unfinished.

Garden bed maintenance: $100 to $125 per hour, plus HST. Cleaning beds out, weeding by hand and by root, cutting back what’s sprawled past its space.

Garden bed edging: $3 per linear foot, plus HST. A cut spade edge along the border that keeps mulch in the bed and grass out of it.

Edge the bed, then fill it, mulch installed starts at $149 a yard, plus HST.

How it works

  1. We walk the lawn first. Overseeding isn’t the fix for every problem, a low spot that sits wet or a grub problem needs a different answer, and we’ll say so.
  2. Lawn is cut short and cleared of clippings so seed reaches soil.
  3. Seed is spread across the whole lawn, worked by hand into bare patches.
  4. Driveway and walkways get blown clean.

FAQ

How long until I see new grass? First green fuzz in one to three weeks, depending on soil temperature and watering. A real difference in thickness shows over the following season.

Do I need to water it myself? Yes, new seed needs light, frequent watering for the first couple of weeks. If nobody will be home to do that, tell us before we seed and we’ll talk through timing.

Can I overseed instead of laying sod? Often, yes, and for less money. If the lawn is thin but alive across most of the yard, seed brings it back. If a whole section is dead soil with nothing left in it, seed alone isn’t enough, and we’ll say so rather than sell you a visit that won’t work.

Why is bed work priced by the hour instead of flat? Beds vary more than lawns do. A seasonal weeding and a bed left for three years aren’t the same job, and a flat rate would mean overcharging one to cover the other.
