Kitchener’s newer south end, Huron Park and Doon South, sits on thin soil over packed subsoil from construction, so a salt-based fertilizer greens the blade and does nothing about the layer underneath. Compost tea and castings put organic matter back into that layer instead. On the older, mature streets, Forest Heights and Alpine, the grass is competing with maple roots for water more than it’s short on food, which is exactly what a steady soil feed helps with instead of a hard nitrogen push.
